Qualcomm announced today that Cristiano Amon will be the next CEO of Qualcomm, after being unanimously elected by the Board of Directors. Amon, who has worked at Qualcomm since 1995, is currently chairman of the company. Amon will be 30 June 2021 to succeed Mollenkopf after stepping down as CEO after 26 years at Qualcomm. Mollenkopf became CEO in March 2014, replacing Paul Jacobs.

Amon is responsible for Qualcomm’s semiconductor activities (QCT), including wireless, RF fronts, automotive, and IdO sales, as well as the company’s global operations. Amon has overseen Qualcomm’s 5G strategy and has led the development of a roadmap for advanced and differentiated products for nearly 15 years.

Cristiano R. Amon, chairman, and chief executive officer of Qualcomm Incorporated, said.

“I am honored to be the next CEO of Qualcomm and I appreciate the trust that Steve and the Board of Directors have placed in me. Qualcomm is an incredible company. We have been at the forefront of innovation for decades and I am looking forward to maintaining this position. In addition to extending 5G to basic devices and beyond mobile, Qualcomm will play a key role in the digital transformation of many industries as our technology becomes essential to connect everything connected to the cloud. The need for our solutions has never been so clear and our leading position has never been so clear. I look forward to working with our 41,000 employees around the world to develop technologies that will revolutionize the way people live, work, and communicate with each other.
